Shawn Kemp Biography

Shawn Travis Kemp Sr. was born on November 26, 1969, and has played in the National Basketball Association for the Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Orlando Magic. He was nicknamed Reign Man and earned six NBA All-Star selections and three All-NBA Second Team honors during his career. Kemp won a gold medal with the United States national team at the 1994 FIBA World Championship and was named to the All-Tournament team. During his first day at the B/C All-Star Camp, he outperformed the highly regarded prep player Terry Mills. He concluded his high school career as Elkhart County's all-time leading scorer and held Concord's career, single-game, and single-season scoring records. Kemp recorded a team-high 18 points in the West's 105–99 loss during an All-Star game. After completing one semester at TVCC without playing, the 19-year-old declared himself eligible for the 1989 NBA draft.
